JB trip

Madness!! I have so many many things to blog abt, and there are only 200 Vietnam photos to upload!! I'm very surprised to see that they have uploaded their photos already, so now I've got no excuse to procrastinate blogging abt the trip.
Did Wk invite u guys to see her album? It's very funny!

Anyway, thought i'd get this out of the way first... As usual, I went to jb w rm and gang this hol, despite Wq warning me to take care (his frenz got threatened with HIV bld) and my mum begging me time and again not to go jb. And also, at Kranji mrt station (just before we head off to jb), Jason v kindly told me abt 2 separate cases in the papers abt how these 2 couples got robbed and the girl got raped in front of the guy. I was terrified, to say the least. But still, the call of seafood was just too strong and off we went.

We went to sing at city square first, and everything there is soooo cheap and gooood that i dun think i ever want to sing in s'pore again. We had alot of fun, and we went abit crazy i think from all the wild songs. And did I mention that it's really cheap??? I paid $5 for 4hrs of singing!!!!!!!!!!!! It's so cheap that Jason can't help but exclaim "wah so cheap meh!" when the bill came. In front of the waiter.

Then, we headed to our usual seafood restaurant, where we ordered ALOT of food, and a huge chilli crab... And Jason was soooooooooooooooooooooooooo nice because he actually treated us all to the meal... It's simply mind boggling, I got rendered speechless.

Maybe I have been hanging around Wk for too long.

It was very dark while we were looking for a cab outside the restaurant on our way back, and I got stranded with Jerry and Jason, and I said that at least I feel safer with two guys. And Jason just had to say, "what if the people who rob us are gay, then they will rape us in front of you."

Phantom Lunch

The theme for our lunch 'appointment' is phantom.
Because Wk kept gushing abt phantom (of the opera), the owner of Gh's phantom of lameness & baudy humour deign us with his actual presence, we saw a 'phantom head' floating by, zh was unlucky to get a box made by my pathetic phantom of a artistic talent (more like a wisp of a phantom actually).. and after sitting at the restaurant for 3hrs, i realise the waitresses treated us like phantoms and stopped refilling our glasses.
Anyway, although all our grand wine-'tasting' plans din manage to materialise in the end, i'm still glad we had this chance to catch up before you guys leave.. I hope you like our presents...

Zh and my lousy box (i din realise tat i wrapped up a shoe box to have it end up looking like a Nike shoe box)

P's beautifully wrapped present by Wk. Tat girl surprises us sometimes....

Wk: Heehee Jamie's box is really quite ugly.
Zh: Ya!!!! Can you do my box next year?

I love this photo! We all look so nice.. And Gh looks so cute...

Let me hereby bid my dear frens a fond adieu (errr i had tea in this cafe that has a very put-on, faux-cultured feel just now. i think there must be something in the tea, i can't help blogging in this affected, dramatic prose, and i feel like using words like tete a tete (heehee Sm look so funny when i said that phrase that time)).

P, promise us you'll take good care of yourself in India ya.. and update us regularly on the tag.
Gh, have a good time with all your 'appointments' in Europe! Enjoy the romance of Paris and the stopover in Amsterdam teehee

A perfect outing

WhEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In keeping with our number 1 rule of the day, i will not mention the dreaded 'P' word at all.. But i WILL blog abt our perfect, perfect day! [to spite gh cos he feels that 1-for-1 buffets are more impt than his jie-meis]

Of cos, our perfect outing started with the most perfect thing of all: the end of our misery!! no more studying [for 3weeks]!! no more pots!! (Legend: pot = glass transparent container with preserved organs. Question: Why the hell would somebody call smth as disgusting as that a pot which normally contains food? Answer: Because those somebodies are sad, sad people.)

After that, everything just kinda went smooth sailing for us.. the A1 bus came immediately.. and before we could even cross over to the 95 bus stop, a taxi was waiting for us there and when i made the "can u take five of us" gesture, the taxi driver gestured us across the road and agreed to drive us!! I was so amazed!! When i entered the taxi, i realised why he agreed.. cos get this: he's an ang moh!!!!!!!! An ang moh taxi driver! Wah... so rare, must take photo! But i think tat will just freak him out.. he's already quite scared as it is and kept telling sm to hide. And when we alighted, he kept looking left and right shiftily.

Then we went to eat at Sm's recommendation: Swiss Culture.. Wah the place is really very good! [thanks sm!] And since my blogders value my opinions so much and my blogging has boosted the revenue of many a failing restaurant [let me fantasize abit here lar] i shall describe at length abt our dining experience at this place [and also to spite gh].
We had the set meal at $15.90 which comes with drinks and soup/salad and main course and dessert...
The clam chowder soup was so abso-lute-ly delicious that it again brings to mind my resolution of learning to make delicious soups (my lovely frens who have absolute faith in my cooking told me that it's not my cooking that's the problem, it's the ingredients i use... awwww so sweet u guys!) P also said that the garden salad with the italian dressing is not bad...
My choice of main course was the salmon steak.. and everything from the presentation to the taste was good so i have nothing to complain abt... the feedback from the rest abt their sirloin steak is not bad too, but sm's pasta is not as nice..
Next, we had either tiramisu or blackforest cake with ice-cream for dessert... though they look really small and cute, they're quite delicious too... AND as though all that is not enuf: for every 2 set meals ordered you get one starter free. So we had the chicken wings and the clams, and for someone who doesnt like clams much, i must say they're soooooooo gooooood.

But what really blew me away was the FANTASTIC service they provide.. a smiley guy very politely showed us to our table and the moment they seated us at the table, some other guy appeared magically betw sm and me with a little chair to put our bags... And when we tried and failed to balance our bags precariously on it (err due to sm's library of books) he appeared again magically with another chair and transferred my bag over without me even noticing until my bag was properly placed!
Then when we were contemplating our options and sm asked a silly question tat was only meant for our ears "what's a salmon steak? is it salmon or steak?" the waiter actually replied her! Our table was actually right by their storefront so all our actions were closely observed by them and service was amazingly prompt.. Even when Wk did her usual Wk thing with the ketchup bottle, a waiter leapt forward to help her with it... Like so chivalrous like tat.
Then Sm struggled with opening one of the clam shells and we jokingly said mayb we can ask the waiters.. and P of cos really did ask (how come it's always P who asks all these embarrassing favours for us? Cite evidence: europe gondola incident) and they had a short discussion among themselves and smiley guy answered, "i think no one is at home, you have to call the clam and see" and he made a telephone gesture... So lame can!!!!!!!! [Hmmmm come to think of it, i wonder if we would still have the same service if gh was around..........]
Hahaha... but it all added to the enjoyable time we had... I so missed talking to you guys!! And we really talked abt everything under the sun: abt earthquakes, orange highlighters, grey's at P's (hee sorry zh), my 'bright' future in neuro, male toilets (teeheeheeheeheeheehee hahahahahaha... rotfl.. sorry... it's really v funny) and the lame spirit of gh lurking abt us as we speak...
And of cos, since gh's not around, we HAVE to shop!!! And shop we did... those girls were still at it while i left for tuition.. what time did u guys leave ah......

So fun!!! Oh and since my blog is now officially the portal thru which we discuss outings (better than friendster or 'face-book?'), can we confirm thur nite for tapas bar, one day for grey's (w/o curry), one day for ear-stand shopping for the presents (let's get gh to do it), one day for office scandal (hopefully plus wine.. look at Wk beseechingly like Sandy) and one day to celebrate birthdays, which sadly we can't celebrate on the 'conseceutive day' for P (lame math joke)..

And again i want to take the opportunity to thank you guys for checking my blog for updates everyday, even though my blog isn't seeing much action these days.. It's quite sad actually..
Aha! i have an idea... how abt like everytime u check.. u can just type smth on the tagboard like "lalala.. i was here.." and the like.....?

Of writeups and CG outings

Bah!! I handed in my writeups at 11.52pm, with just 8minutes to spare... And i was student no. 68 out of 80 hahaha.... We're such procrastinators...
Hmmph... all i can say is, that smiling tiger better give me a good mark lo.. Because of him, i had to pangseh my frenz for a shopping trip on thur and on fri (the deadline day), i had to leave embarrassingly early at one of my goodest, oldest friend's birthday party (sorri aif dearie).
Okie okie.. i should stop complaining.. i can hear Wk grumbling that she reminded us many times to not procrastinate. [Hmmph.. but yet you still dragged me against my will into fay's car when my conscience was telling me to go home to start writing.]
Quite funny.. after the last deadline a short one month ago, when our entire cg spent e deadline day in the com lab frantically doing our writeups, we all swore adamantly that for the 2nd deadline, we muz NOT procrastinate!! And yet.. i still see all of them online doing our writeups at the same time.. [we started work when we got home from our outing on thur and went offline to sleep at 1am then on fri morn when i went on at 10am i see WQ online, stressing me out cos he made good progress while me the one who had to leave for a party still having 1.5 more writeups to go... but he helped me out when i came home at 10pm when i was seriously freaking out so i forgive him... then juz now when i handed in my writeup at 11.52pm Leonard told me he handed in his 5min ago.. buahaha so funny]

We had a sort of impromptu outing on thursday to sort of celebrate with SC the end of his test, cos the poor guy took his test on thur while everyone else took theirs on wed. We wed folks actually went out for lunch already after our tests cos we tot the lunch on thur is off, what with fay having plans and ZH disappearing immediately after his test w/o even saying bye.
But at 6pm when i sms WQ to ask him whether the lunch is still on, he sms me a few sec later saying "on! let's go for buffet! i want to eat sashimi" So i suggested kuishinbo and he agreed and i relayed e msg to Wk to meet at 12pm. It was seriously the easiest outing i have ever arranged. i waited for smth to happen ie. someone pulling out.

At 11.45am thur, WQ sms me that SC hasn't finished his test, so i asked him whether we shld change plans cos no time for buffet. And he said, "TWO HOURS STILL NOT ENUF???? HOW MUCH YOU WANNA EAT??!!" [i type this in caps cos i imagine him shouting at me in disgust] Boo hoo hoo i feel like such a pig after his sms lar!

Anyway, when i reached, it was just me, WQ and Wk, but to my surprise, everybody made it, though at vastly different times. SC rushing down after his test, fay cancelling her plans for us, ZH who just woke up, and even Leonard who even tho had smth on in the morn still made it down at 2pm for lunch... i'm very the touched...

And we had a really really really good time... Even tho i felt super embarrassed for eating so much (but i must say, those guys really cannot eat leh...)
[photos to be uploaded after i get the photos frm fay]

After that, we girls went shopping, and the guys just hung around somewhere.. Then, we started reminiscing abt the last time we went to Settler's and someone said, "let's go now!" And off we went, squeezing into fay's car, even though it was 4pm and we all had writeups to do... This was the moment when i was suddenly gripped with a guilty conscience and wanted to leave but Wk forcefully dragged me into the car (she muz be really strong cos i muz weigh at least alot heavier than her, plus an extra 5kg from all that sashimi). But we had alot of fun, laughing and screaming at the top of our voices until at the end of 1hr we all felt like we had just run a marathon [fay, you cheated my feelings!!! how can u run off w/o telling me??!!!!!!!!!!!!]

i wonder when we can do this again...............

Last day as cg28

Our last day as a cg is officially over... *booo hooooo hooooooooooooooooooo*
i'm soooooooooooooooooooooooooo saaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.

When we first met each other 1 and a half years ago, i never imagined that these pple could become like my second family. Having spent close to 10hours tog everyday for almost one year (that's 365x10 = 3650 hours!), these guys have grown on me and now i dunno how i can get thru the long dreary days in sch without WQ's lame jokes, SC's hilarious-ness, fay's cute antics, ZH's stomach-splittingly funny wise words.

You guys, we have to try our best to catch up once in a while k... maybe go for seafood again, or at the very least mug tog lar..

Here's a tribute to all of you....

Our first outing 1 year plus ago during psychomed. Think we look more innocent then.

In JB enjoying yummy seafood

Since ortho was so slack (teehee) we went to Settler's Cafe to have a screeching round of "Ugly, Ugly, Ugly" but the guys got terribly frightened by Wk's err.. desire to win, so we settled for "I'm the boss" after that. Really very very fun. Went for Zi Cha after that.

My 22nd Birthday

you guys are prob thinking, "NOW she blogs abt her bdae??!!!"
I'm bored lar.. and i just dun feel like mugging again after the half-of-posting test. And this new version of blogger is encouraging me to blog more so i'm just gonna post up some photos tat shld have been up since eons ago.........

Rm and gang were quite sweet to want to celebrate my bdae with me and we went to have my absolute fav buffet, ma la huo guo (i have cravings for it aLL the time, poor Catechol can testament to this). But sadly we thought the mala base at the place we went to not tat good (the black restaurant facing bugis junction), aniwei J, Rm, Hag and i had the mala base pot while Jy, Gh and Ja had the tom yum. Rather cunningly.. while the tom yum peeps left to get more food, we made the switch without informed consent and gleefully tucked into the delicious tom yum already overflowing with cooked food. And the poor guys got our lousy mala with a few drumsticks floating abt sadly in it. To add insult to injury, J and H kept stealing food from them such that alot of fighting and protecting of prawns broke out.

Aniwei i'm sure everybody had fun la... Although i dun think i spoke to the "other soup guys" much. I atempted to shout over to Gh at the other end of the table, but failed and lamented sadly, "i can't even see Gh from here......." And Hag (he was sitting next to me) gave me a menacing glare, "what are you trying to say huh?"

Or maybe they were just a tad pissed off by our pilaging.

Yum! Lesson learnt: Stolen prawns taste better than normal prawns

Lesson learnt: One eye to be kept on your enemies at all times, even while eating.

Lesson to be learnt: The Great Soup Divide~It's always not a nice thing to let someone bear the burden of your own hot soup

Lesson learnt: Move the soup when the soup doesn't move you

Lesson learnt: Never eat so much at a dinner buffet. Especially if you were supposed to go to hospital at 5am the next morn to deliver babies

And now............... For the photo i was supposed to put up but didnt for fear of my life....

The photo where Wk looks like a Vietnamese bride...
Look at the photo and i dare you to tell me she doesn't look like a Vietnamese bride, or a chinese one for tht matter.

The food at Menotti's is really really really good... i'm dying to go back there again..... Thanks you girls for bringing me there and celebrating my birthday....

Wk's surprise!

Once upon a time, there was a girlcalled Wk who really, really liked people to remember and celebrate her birthday for her. Her close friends and also her not-so-close friends all know of this fact because well, she told everybody this. There was also this one time when she forced her friends to call her on her birthday even though she was in Australia. She would very thoughtfully remind her friends that her birthday is approaching weeks to even months beforehand, but of course, all these adorable character traits were why her friends love her so.

However, this year, things changed as our dear girl was rather enamoured of other more important things (studying for the o&g tests lar, what were you thinking) than to remind her friends. And thus, a cunning, cunneeeng plan (to be said in evil villain lousy french accent) was hatched.

In the days leading up to her birthday, all was quiet, much like the calm before a storm (sheesh, am i melodramatic or what). There were no talk about meeting up for her birthday or asking her what presents she wanted. Our poor Wk grew more and more desolate, thinking that everybody forgot her birthday. Little did she know that her friends were in a planning frenzy. If you were to eavesdrop on their conversation , you would hear whispers of “balloons” and “cake”. Even the kind and extremely generous wine-providing sister has been roped in to help bring the cuckoo to the nest, so to speak. (Don't “huh” me, i thought those cops in bad chinese movies always say, “the cuckoo has landed” when they spot their target?)

D-day began bright and early, and the cunneeeng friends met up to travel to the scene of the crime (aka the party location aka at sister's bf''s super nice wine-tasting room). One cunneeng-er friend even have the ingenuity (if i do say so myself) to give her a morning “happy birthday” sms and to ask Wk to join her in an outing with some other friends later in the day. When Wk replied that she was going shopping with her sister (this is the bringing the cuckoo part), the friend said with a tinge of sadness that she would go herself. (heeheehee i'm laughing in glee)

And thus, a balloon-blowing,

streamers-hanging,

candle-lighting frenzy was embarked upon, followed by a tense waiting in silence and darkness. But all was worth it and the surprise party was a success as the cuckoo was well and truly surprised. It was just so satisfying to see her so happy and touched:

Super belated JB post

sorry sorry sorry i know i haven been blogging much lately but very busy lar.... I'm so suay i tell you... all my clinics are either useless or cancelled, and the wards are super dry.. yeah yeah, know every patient is a gem or smth to that effect lar, forgot the saying liaoz... but when you see less than 10 patients in the ward and ALL of them have relatives around, i also feel very sian.. Which was why today, i left kk at the ungodly time of 12noon!!! Buah haha!! My afternoon was scheduled as self-study time aniwei, so i'm using my self-study time to better study myself and my life by blogging (heeheehee... corny i know, but actually i feel very guilty lar)

Anyway, i logged onto my blog yesterday adn i thought the jb photos look very goondoo on their own so i shall blog abt the trip loh... (more abt my "birthday celebration" in kk and *cough* S*D clinic later)

We started our jb trip with a plan... a bus plan... I dunno whose idea it was but when i first heard it i thought it was quite ingenious, not to mention hilarious, but now on hindsight.. SIGHHHHHHH...

Since we all refuse to meet at a designated sensible place (eg. kranji mrt), the plan is to hop onto the same bus no. 170 at our preferred locations. Sooo... WQ will first get onto the bus at bugis, then L will get on at newton area, Wk will get on at coro followed by F and ZH at kap and lastly me at the sensible kranji mrt station. Of course, looking at the plan, one can very smartly deduce that the later you board the bus, the earlier you should be so that you wouldn't miss the rest.. so i set off at a super early time and found out on the train that i would be 1hr early cos somehow *cough cough* the whole plan got horribly delayed.

So there i am, on the train, sms-ing and whining with poor Wk who has been sitting at the busstop inhaling exhaust for the past 45min. And i smartly decided to take the train to boon lay so tat at least i can get abit more air-con.. but hilariously, when i receive the "get-on-the-bus-NOW" call i just reached kranji control station.. haha anyway, i reached the checkpoint just 5min later cos the freq of 170s at the sensible and convenient kranji mrt station is very fast.

After hinting to L that i'm very very very hungry (he's the latest link, but according to him, he tot we were supposed to meet at 12 instead of 11, oh well), we decided to take a cab to the superbig shopping centre, which is a welcome change from our usual outings to city square only or to that one memorable time when we had a 'nice walk' around jb. The shopping centre is really quite nice and had quite alot of food and shopping, so naturally, we the girls went crazy and immediately left the guys on their own after our nice lunch.

We found out that poor L bought movie tix ALONE cos he couldn't find Wq or Zh. From time to time, we would run into Zh walking around aimlessly, on the last time, he told us he was so bored he had already walked around the whole place thrice.. even the food section.. and we cheerfully informed him that we haven even explored the departmental store area yet... but aniwei we took pity on him and went with him for a drink at the coffeehouse area next to our designated meeting place to wait for Wq and L, much like the old aunties and uncles on a tour who hung around the tourbus 20min ahead of time in the hope that the younger ones would come sooner. Wq somehow appeared out of nowhere and claimed that he had been at the bookshop all this time, though Zh says that he din see him. (In o&g, we are taught to use the word "claim" when we think the patient is lying.)

After that, after a harrowing experience in the taxi, we arrived at our seafood area safely, and got sweet-talked into eating at a particular restaurant because the owner offered free 3 packets of keropok (one of which WQ ate by himself.. and only after MUCH nagging brought the other pack for us.. come to think of it.. where's the third pack ah???!!!)

Opthalmo and Birthday celebration

Bleh i hate it that i'm always blogging abt school stuff, made me sound so no life and then it juz struck me that i indeed does have no life outside of medicine... sighz..

Anyway i shan't blog much abt opthalmo except that i really quite enjoyed the posting even though i STILL can't master direct opthalmoscopy despite looking at all of our cg mates' eyes and at least 10 other dilated eyes this week (they say it will come out for MBBS yikes).

But i must admit that opthalmo at S*EC is really an eye-opening experience for me. It opened my eyes to the opulence and shiok lifestyle of our opthalmologists... On the first day, when we were brought around the place, our eyes got bigger and bigger as we took in the very nice staff lounge with a plasma tv and TWO massage chairs (one of which is i-symphony) and TWO osim i-squeeze and many nice chairs and tables complete with coffee machine and TWO fridges. And there were also TWO very nice rooftop gardens where we can have our lunches.

We also spent alot of time on the osim i-symphony, it was so shiok that after a lovely ten minutes on it, i felt very relaxed and at peace with the world. I swear, i shall get myself one of those things when i make my first 100000 bucks. Btw, one costs around 7k.

We had a lecture at one of the meeting rooms there and there was a HUGE plasma tv screen on the wall, next to several paintings and sculptures. And our powerpoint slides were projected on the screen itself! I didn't even know you can do that.

Oh anyway, the rumours abt the pretty girls ARE true......

And here are some photos of us celebrating our dearest Opthalmology rep birthday, which we spent days planning and went to great lengths to keep it a surprise until WQ had to spoil it all by saying very matter-of-factly to SC "there is a cake" just seconds before Fay could get the cake from the fridge.

we made him close his eyes till we can get the cake ready Posted by Picasa

We took quite a long time getting the cake ready, firstly cos there were too many candles to put (sorry, joke joke!!), and then, the air con in the lounge is too strong so the matches kept blowing themselves out, and our dearest Wk very best-ly brought like FIVE matches so under "survivor-esque" conditions, I had to light the extra candle to light the candles on the cake, and succeeded in getting wax on the cake.

that's leonard using a knife to get rid of wax on the cake Posted by Picasa
And you see SC looking abit bored there... or is he actually asleep???

bdae boy making his wish Posted by Picasa
Finally he saw the cake... And i think he got abit hungry cos while i was trying to coax Fay and WQ to give the bdae boy a kiss on each cheek simultaneously, our bdae boy very hurriedly made his wish and blew out the candles before WQ could take the classic bdae photo of the candle blowing.

wah our bdae boy look quite good here sia.. but of cos the cake looks better Posted by Picasa
btw, the cake is latte cake from Island Creamery. Must give credit where credit is due. Thanks to Wk cos the latte is really quite nice, and thanks to yours truly cos it's my idea to go Island Creamery. (btw, i want the teh tarik ice-cream cake for my birthday k)

I didn't realise Fay went around taking candid shots of us till.......

"how to keep the knife ah?" Posted by Picasa
In the end, Wk wrapped up her chopping knife in a plastic bag and stuffed it in her bag... and we all came up with different scenarios as how she can scare the patients with it: "Uncle, can i examine your eyes??" reaches for opthalmoscope in pocket and knife drops out onto floor, scrambles frantically to pick it up and hide it... (ZH acted this extremely well).
