I had a wonderful birthday today... Thank you, everyone, for making this such a great day!
I had a day packed full of good cheer and surprises and that in itself was a surprise since i didn't have much high expectations of today since it's smacked right in the middle of dreary surg sip.
I always like to say that my birthday brings good luck to all, and now looking back, I realised this is really true leh!
Here's why this had been such a great day for me:
My first emotion of the day was surprise since for once I woke up feeling energized and happy instead of my usual grouchy and sian persona which will only wear off after my morning cup of teh-beng.
We had, for some reason, a whole lot of H tdy and H cm, even those pts we din expect to leave soon also got discharged. So I guess that's good luck for the patients. [And hopefully good news for us.]
It's nice to have lunch with what Wk termed 'the old guys' and other friends today, and I was overwhelmed with them all being super sweet to me, with ridiculous compliments instead of the usual jokes. And even when one or two jokes can't help but escape Wq's mouth, someone would immediately say, "it's her birthday today, save it for tmrw." The compliments got more and more ridiculous that I kinda expect them to come up to me one by one tmrw and say, "I would like to retract this so-and-so statement abt you yesterday at this-and-this time."
The one 'new guy' even did a very nice thing by turning up sudd while we were all at novena food court. I was very shocked to see him cos we were just talking to him at ttsh and he had lunch already. He just said, "Oh i forgot to wish you happy birthday just now" and came over to shake my hand. I knew smth was up so i asked Wk abt it later and turned out he had initially wanted to buy me a birthday cake as the cg present but Wk told him not to. Either she remembers that i don't really like birthday cakes, or (more likely) she herself doesn't want a cake as her cg present (it's all in the cycle folks).
And for once, got pple help me carry my stuff without grumbles lor, so shuang haha!
And when i was queuing up to buy my food, it was a really really nice surprise, to have P call me and so nice to hear my jie meis in the background and you guys coercing Gh to no avail to sing me a Happy Birthday song. Hahahahahahaha!
Then after I took blood (scarily) from a schiz agitated elderly patient, our HO let us know that we dun have to stay for the exit round w the reg (Cos he's stuck in ot) and we left at 6! Yay!
So I did manage to have a dinner celebration after all, and we decided to indulge me by letting me go to the very sinful Brazilian buffet restaurant at Vivo, which I have always wanted to try for the past 6mths. I loved the place, but most especially the tapas bar. Hee somehow I have an unexplainable liking for black beans, and even have my own recipe for them, so of course I just gobbled up their famous Brazilian feijoada, black bean stew. I noticed I'm the only one that's making a noticeable dent in the serving tray. Disgusting, I know.
I loved the beef, the ambience, the black beans, the comfy sofa, the impeccable service, and the cute ang moh waiters. He liked the garlic bread (strange yes), the comfy sofa, the company of cos, and the Man U match showing on the LCD screen in the restaurant. So we were both very happy.
And in the middle of the meal, I had two more phone calls with people I've sort of lost contact with over the past few months cos of our schedules, so it was really a wonderful surprise to just hear their voices.
We then gleefully walked out of the restaurant, to realise that they charged us the happy hour price of $31++ each instead of $37++ even though happy hour is from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, and we walked into the restaurant at 6.35pm. Best!
Thank you everyone who wished me Happy birthday and a great day today, your wishes really came through leh.
