Warning: Boring entry, I’m hoping I can bore myself to sleep
Family Medicine is over. I feel rather sad as it is the only posting where I’ve truly enjoyed myself. Not because it’s a slack posting but I just find myself liking the environment and patients of all the places we’ve been rotated through, even the community hospitals.
And the tutors were all extremely nice, they really do practise the ‘encouraging and motivating’ thing they go on and on about. I found it ridiculous that the tutors, with the exception of Gerald koh, gave us breaks in the middle of lectures and tutorials. The other day during our tutorial with Prof Goh, he was being so annoyingly nice and agreed with every single thing we say, even the super crappy answer I gave. I complained to Leonard and he said that “well, that’s COFM for you, it’s all about making you feel good” And the community hospitals went so far as to provide tea. Tea! For us lowly medical students. Twice at St. Andrews! (10am: egg sandwiches, samosas and custard pie, 3pm: TUNA sandwiches, spring rolls, kuehs) It’s such a sharp contrast from surgery, where we tried to eat their OT lunches, which involves us slipping surreptitiously into the lunchroom, asking the cook for permission, getting scolded by the cook who went on about the poor surgeons having nothing to eat, us promising not to take so much, taking just enough to feed a 4 year old kid and trying to ignore all the icy daggers coming our way.
The COFM department is so welfare that we even have a bonus mark for the test, where the answer was actually answered for us.
The only thing bad abt the posting are the bloody writeups. Imagine trying to write a 3 page write-up from a 15 minute long consult, where sometimes you didn’t even get the chance to clerk the patient. Or worse, from a home visit where the patient is a bedbound, speech challenged stroke patient. My smoking skills have never been better. Wq said a funny thing the other day, actually I was the only one amused (probably because I have been smoking my write-up till 1 plus the previous night despite having a fever, so I have a low humour threshold frm lack of rest). He said that “to date, we have probably written more write-ups than everyone else”. I counted, discounting the med/surg/cmcs/other stuff, I have written 2psych+10emed+4familymed=16 bloody write-ups! From now on, I’m going to flaunt this fact when I’m arguing with any of you. Eg.
“I’m correct because I have written more write-ups than you.”
“I’m chioer because I have written more write-ups than you.”
“I can be late because I have written more write-ups than you.”
And so on and so forth.
I’m also sad that I wouldn’t get to see our CG mates for the next two months, they’re really starting to grow on me (even WQ’s lameness). Oh anyway, wk feedbacked (fed-back??) to me that I sounded quite upset on my shu nu post, and I was quite touched by all the comments you guys gave, but I really meant that entry to be funny. I wasn’t upset, just very very bewildered. Err I guess wk and I just got the wrong end of the stick. Wk’s Queen of Contraception because they think she’s very knowledgeable in that area=smart. So they’re actually complimenting her that she’s very smart. They think I would like to go after any and all types of guys so I guess they’re saying that I’m accepting, open-minded and adaptable to changes. It’s really very nice of them to imply that. (My cg mates found out about my blog address today, so there’s a slight chance that they may read the previous entry)
We went for cg outing today, and sat at a Japanese ice-cream café (after a heavy dinner) for three hours, till they closed. I think it was because the wait for our seats was about 1hr and so we die-die also must make full use of it. Actually the poor guys were the ones queuing la, us three girls happily went shopping (hee sorry guys). The ice-cream sundaes were all very pretty but my red bean paste left much to be desired. (I took photos but I can’t figure out how to transfer them frm my nokia phone to my laptop using infrared. Any advice?) My green tea ice-cream with red bean paste cost me $7 though, but I think I drank my money’s worth in the cups of green tea they kept pouring us. I stopped at my 4th cup though due to the strong diuretic effect of the tea. (Which is also why I’m blogging now. I’m super exhausted but try as I might I can’t get to sleep)
The Marina Square K box is waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy cool. They actually have buffet!!!!!!!!!! It starts at 6.30pm and ends at 10pm but you can continue singing till it closes if you made your reservation. That’s 7 hours of singing!!! (I wonder how many rounds of ‘open your eyes’ can I sing in that time?) And the buffet, frm where I stood, looks quite similar to Sakura (with sashimi and dessert and all). $22 for weeknights and $31 for fri and sat. My two greatest loves combined into one…. AAAhhhhh someone go with me quick!!!!!
P.S For those of you going for your GP posting, I have one thing to say: $500.
(Due to the number of bloggers being sued left right and center nowadays, I’m not at liberty to elaborate further.)
P.P.S I'll put up the cg outing photo after i finish charging my cam
