Thank you thank you thank you to all those lovely friends who recommended me to go to Sakura. The food variety is really good! Finally, I think I managed to curb my desire to go to my ultimate buffet goal, Pariss.
Since my reputation of buffet queen has long ago preceded me, many friends have been telling me to go try sakura ages ago. I didn’t get the opportunity to go since I usually try to arrange to go for buffets on a weekday lunch and also I thought the only branch was at bloody Tampines. Anyway, I did some research (when I should have been studying for the pros) and found out that the weekend lunch is only $22 nett which is super super cheap! And then last night, I found out that they actually have a new branch at Singapore Science Centre! How cool is that!
To RZ folks: wah heng when we were working there that time didn’t have it, if not I confirm go fat one haha
(in case you’re interested, the other branches are at Tampines Safra, Downtown east, Toa Payoh and there’s a new branch opening at Clementi Woods in april. No wonder they can charge such prices for the food they offer, I mean like, there’s a woods in clementi??!!!)
So I dragged myself out of bed at 10 to do my preparations for eating a major league buffet despite having slept at 6am last night (don’t ask me what I’m doing sleeping at 6am, my sleep-wake cycle has been warped since thur). Preparations include not eating breakfast and trying to shit everything in my sigmoid colon out (err is that too much information?).
So fast-forwarding through the shitting and to the food, the moment I did the first tour around the buffet tables, a joyous tingle start to travel down my spine to the very tips of my toes. The food variety is really really good!! There are like 12 flavours of ice-cream and the cakes! Oh the cakes! Got all my favourite: blackforest, new york cheesecake and oreo cheesecake! And any type of agar agar you can think of. Also, they are the only buffet I have ever eaten (and trust me I’ve eaten A LOT in my lifetime, did I tell you I started eating buffets when I was 7?) that includes longan in the fruits section, so cute!
teeheeheehee
i dun think i'd ever seen me so happy
The on-the-spot cook section is pretty cool too, u juz put your table clips to the picture stands of the food you want and they’ll serve it to you when it’s done, no waiting required! And the temptation is there to just walk round the section and put your clips on all the stands. The service is really good too, there was once when Liang went to order Drunken prawns claypot and the prawns actually arrived at our table before he did haha. The waitresses there are all puny young girls and they really earned my respect as they often have to juggle three claypots or many many dirty dishes at a time. Also EVERYTIME they serve you something they’d say “Enjoy your food” which really tickled me after like the 20th time.
My only regret was only having three hours of sleep last night, so I wasn’t really on form. Thus I wanted but couldn’t eat another 15 pieces of sashimi, 5 plates of grilled dory, 3 plates of lambchop, 8 pieces of oreo cheesecake and 5 scoops of ice-cream.
After that, we took a walk around Science Centre to reminisce about the past. Afterall, here was where it all began. Where we fell in love. With bridge. (what were you thinking?)
(To RZ folks again: I miss you guys so much, too bad yan can’t make it for bridgy this weekend, but what to do, graduating year liao, jia you k!)
By around, I meant, really around the outskirts of Science Centre. Take some advice from someone who once worked there k, the exhibitions in the annex building is often never worth the $18 entrance fee. $6 for the main building is ok ba, only if you’re really rich, or boh liao, or interested in science.
The Kinetics Garden was quite fun la, for me, and I think also for Liang. You know a guy shares your silliness (or has a lot of patience), if he trudges behind you in the hot sun, as you read the instructions and tries every single exhibit, and is as interested as you (or pretends to be interested).
i couldn't do this in my 2cm high heels
is it really so strange that i'm having fun?
I discovered a very cool dragon whose head turns and follows you if you walk in an arc around it. I also notice a distinct similarity in the posture of the dragon and the Mona Lisa.
see the same coy smile and eyes
Liang made me take a video to put up here but me being the techno-idiot that I am, dunno how to. But I think I remember seeing a clip of the same dragon on the google video of the day website (gvod.blogspot.com)
After that, we went to the je lib to enjoy the air-con and the moment we stepped into the lib we heard an announcement for a Stroke Prevention and Rehabilitation lecture taking place in 5min. It seems like fate, so we went to check it out.
And to my surprise the speaker for the Prevention lecture is actually Dr Robert Gan! He’s a very nice and very good neurologist at nni and he gave my cg 2 tutorials before.
The first thought that struck me was ‘eeks what if he recognizes me?’ The second was eh isn’t that the slides from the nni stroke lecture that’s in the yahoo groups? The third was when I saw someone in the first row taking photos of him (I later realize that’s the staff, or maybe his wife) and I wanted to take a photo of him too (I really liked him la cos he’s so nice, so good to his patients and so brilliant). I didn’t la, too embarrassed to do so, I made do with clapping very loudly at the end of the lecture. The fourth thought was that it is a rather weird experience, attending a neuro lecture with a bunch of aunties and some bored uncles.
The next speaker was a lady from some rehab center and she was very inspiring and everything Wong ML mentioned in her communication notes which I mugged very hard and nothing came out (or maybe we are supposed to use it and I didn’t, which is why I’m waiting nervously for the cofm viva list). I even saw someone wiping away tears! I had a new respect for stroke patients and their caregivers after her talk. Err I know it’s after cofm and CMCS and everything but JUST in case you’re interested, she’s giving a appliances and adaptations for stroke patients talk next sat at je lib at 4pm (time not sure).
After the lectures, Liang and I had a slight tiff as he kept insisting that the pronunciation is ‘infract’ instead of infarct. I might have said ‘farct’ rather too loudly on the crowded train as I got some weird stares, so I coaxed him into a bet with me teeheeheeheehee. If you guys see him on the streets pls correct him hor, money is involved here.
