Amazing race

I wonder what it would be like to go on the amazing race. I would imagine myself running along the streets of Paris and doing amazing feats for Roadblock. And then I realised that because I'm hopeless at finding my way anywhere, I would just get hopelessly lost and Phil would have to kindly search me out and inform me that I've been eliminated.

So I decided to give myself a test. I decided to bring Liang to West Coast Park. I've been there once about 4 months back for Orientation BBQ. Then, I took 189 from Clementi mrt with Guohao and Wenkai and just blindly followed them off the bus. I suppose you can all guess what happened today.

I was feeling smug that finally we're going somewhere that Liang doesn't know how to go cos that's a rare occasion. I swear, that guy could be a taxi driver. And whenever I asked him how he knows, he'll just go all yaya and say he just does.

I was sure that 51 goes there so we happily took the bus but I realised too late that nothing seems familiar so I went to ask the bus driver who 'suay suay' happens to be on his first day of work and said,"Huh? Got west coast park one meh?"

Being my silly self, I put on a confident air and confidently told Liang to get off the bus. Then my facade fell right through when I pointed randomly in one direction and declared,"I think it's there!" Turns out the sea is in the opposite direction. Anyway we walked and walked and walked and I spied an area that looks vaguely park-like, so I got all excited and Liang just heaved a big sigh and allowed me one second of blissful ignorance before enlightening me.

This was what I saw.

Yup, the Jurong Reservoir. Hey don't blame me for being such an idiot. My mum passed me all her blur genes. But in the end with Liang's superb sense of direction we managed to reach West Coast Park before sunset.

Sun sets in the West Posted by Hello

After much discussion, I came up with a list of errors that led me to my failure:

1) West coast lies to the east of Clementi and NOT, as its name suggests, at the western most part of Singapore.

2) Because of reason 1, the bus stop at which we should alight is opposite to the 189 bus stop of the previous time.

3) Because of reason 2, I have been looking out of the wrong side of the bus.

4) I shouldn't have attempted this outing at all.

So maybe I'm just not cut out to be Amazing Race material.
