Vietnam Day Four

Editor's note: Paeds at NUH has so far been very very very very boring... I'm beginning to dislike paeds again... BAH!
Wk and I have been having some melancholy thoughts lately, and on the whole, I have been feeling pretty down this week, but at least we have Harry Potter to cheer us up (hmmph to all u pple who din wanna watch w us!). And yet again, I'm home on a fri nite, so finally i can get the Vietnam blogging out of the way...

In the blink of an eye, our last day in Vietnam has arrived, and I'm really glad I listened to Wq to have an extra 'relaxing' day to 'watch the world go by' . That guy actually woke up early to go to a cafe to stone loh. Siao! I asked, "it's Vietnam, not France! Got anything go by meh?" yh said, "yar lor! you can only see the bikes go by."
So anyway, the rest of us saner folks woke up damn late, and went to collect Wq for a proper breakfast this time, at a fast food restaurant that sells beef pho.

After that, Wq. Wk and I headed out to the War Remnants Museum (formerly known as American War Crimes Museum, but I guess somebody decided that that was too explicit). yh was sick so the poor guy decided to sleep in the hotel room.

We took a nice leisurely walk down to the Museum, enjoying the morning sights, and again we had to take more photos of the traffic.

Ever wondered what pple do while stuck in a jam

Some photos from the Museum

Pictures of victims of Agent Orange, the biological weapon that the Americans used.

Again, photos of guns for gh's enjoyment

They keep the prisoners of war in tiny cells called tiger cells that are not more than 1m by 2m.

Me trying to look solemn to fit the occasion

Wk looking suitably solemn and guillotine.

Some of my fav photos at the exhibition, taken by photojournalists who died during the war

Me and plane.

On our way out, we saw a bunch of Singaporean guys doing funny poses with a tank, so I asked Wq if he wants me to take a pic for him with the tank. I was awarded with a withering look and he went, "What?! I spent two years with that thing I don't want to see it again."

Lunch was at a very crowded run-down coffeshop near our hotel and I had some very delicious fried pork roll with vermicilli. And very very very delicious strawberry sugarcane juice. And we had to da bao porridge back for yh.

We went back to see a very sick yh sleeping on a very comfy bed. And since we all felt very post-prandial, we just kinda slacked in the hotel room watching a James Bond movie. Poor yh was still able to sleep despite me and Wq laughing very loudly at all the corny James Bond lines.

Wait a minute, is Wk creeping up on yh???

Gasp!
[Wk smsed me and i quote: "Take off the photo or I will kill you tomorrow"]

I took a photo to show that Wq and I were very prim and properly sitting on chairs.

I hurriedly decided that we should head to the market for some shopping.

The market was overwhelming, to say the least. And we kept getting lost.

I enjoyed myself tho, and sent everyone back to the hotel and happily shopped till I was broke. In fact, I only discovered I was broke in the middle of bargaining with two very pushy ladies, and they only let go of my arm when I showed them my empty wallet.
I quickly went back to the hotel to find our designated money lender.

Dinner was again recommended by the hotel guy, at another 'cheap and good' restaurant where we can watch pple prepare our food.
The place was 2 storeys and was huge, but yet there was still an unbelievably long queue, but somehow we managed to jump the queue and went right in. We think it's because we're tourists.
We tried their famous dirt cheap barbecued prawns and various rice paper wraps.

One of my favourites were the chicken in sugarcane and vermicilli and banana and mint leaves wrap. I just simply can't believe that so many different exotic elements can create such a delicious mixture. When I came back to Singapore, I tried to emulate the ingredients, but still failed horribly. I blamed it on the lousy quality rice-paper we bought.

Last meal of our trip

On the whole, I really really enjoyed myself during this Vietnam trip. I enjoyed the company and it's definitely a refreshing experience and I think I officially got bitten by the travelling bug.

I want to go somewhere again!
