X-men

As a child, i never read comics, because i dunno how to read them. Seriously. I once asked a friend to teach me the sequence of boxes because i just can't figure it out for myself... and even after she tells me, i got confused with the speech bubbles that straddles between boxes.. sigh.. so painful.... And the English comics are so lame, what with the "bam"s and the "ka-pow"s.. What exactly is a "kapow" aniwei???
No, i rather read books.. The Babysitters' Club, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys (wat a name!), Mallory Towers... Sometimes i wish i can read them all again, to relive my childhood memories, but i'm too embarrassed to browse the kids' section, being surrounded by screaming kids, in the library hmmph.. Maybe next time i'll force Catechol to borrow the books for me Muahahaha...

And i also didn't watch the x-men cartoons much, cos i tot Wolverine is rather silly.. I mean, think abt it, he's just as good as the average bulky guy who carries a Swiss Army knife around with him all the time (gasp! Isn't that gh???!!!) I do remember spending every afternoon at 6pm watching He-man (the incredibly muscular guy who walks around semi-naked) though, sheesh, i never realised that i'm that precoccious...

So anyway, when Catechol suggested renting X-men the movie to watch, i reluctantly agreed... it was quite good tho.. But because i have totally no clue who everyone was, i'm ashamed to admit that i asked Catechol alot of bimbotic questions like:
"Why is Cyclops useless without his glasses",
"What sort of a name is Rogue?",
"Is he good guy or bad guy?",
"Why does Gene Gray always look so exhausted after staring at something?"

I must say, Catechol did a good job trying to answer most of my questions instead of throttling me to death, as i woud to myself.

"Why is Storm not doing anything?"
"Because she can't use her powers indoors"

"How come Magnito can fly?"
"Cos he can use his telekinetic powers to move himself."

And then, i asked the question of the century:
"How come that Charles Xavier guy goes around in a wheelchair?" For non-Xmen fans, he is the so-called leader of the good guys, and is super cool cos he can control people's minds and have telekinetic powers. So using my powers of inference, he can also, like Magnito, make himself fly. And at several times in the movie, i saw him stand up from the wheelchair leh.. And seems to be fairly ADL independent.
So, why is he in a wheelchair? I think there must be some significant history that us, non-Xmen comic readers have missed. So Can somebody please please enlighten me, cos after pondering for some time the best answer that Catechol can come up with is this:



"Maybe it's because his ass looks ugly, and he doesn't want anyone to see"

I totally peng-ed, i tell you.

Anyway, Catechol thinks i'm joking but i really, really, really like the name Magnito and i'm determined to name my future son that. Don't you think that's such a magnificent name? It just gives one the feeling of power and greatness. And i'll train my son to say, "Hi everybody, my name IS MAGNITO", complete with deep booming voice and followed by evil laughter.
