My 20th Birthday

The long awaited day had finally arrived!!!! Freedom!!

After a long month where the threat of the CAs loom menacingly over all of our heads, after a few weeks of intense torture (more abt that later), finally, no more mugging yea!

So I went out and celebrated with a vengence, after all, it IS my birthday. The five of us, Priya, Wenkai, Zhihui, Shimin and I went down to Nooch for lunch (partly cos Wenkai insists on parking at e cheap car park near Borders). The food was good, the conversation funny. Shimin constantly got reminded abt the CA, which we agreed was a taboo subject) so Priya will chide her for bringing it up and Wenkai will try to change the subject to something on TV. And on and on that cycle went.

After that, we went for Shark Tale, which appealed to my whacky sense of humour. I LOVE it when all the fishes have such human characteristics and I just kept laughing and laughing and actually felt exhausted after the movie. (Just picture a gay shark being 'pummelled' by a fake 'Shark Slayer' tiny fish, complete with the whole holding shark by tail and whipping him around. Damn funny right? Right? Hello?)

Then they left me and Liang picked me up from Orchard. The moment I got into the car he told me to look behind and I was momentarily blinded by this huge bouquet of red roses. It was monstrous, bordering on scary actually. In fact when I carried it around (which he insisted that I do) it almost blocked part of my face which is good as I have a major pimple outbreak after the CA.

Side note: About the flowers, my dad commented: WAH where got flowers so big one? You very steady leh can get such big flowers. my mum commented: Aiyo so big! How to take mrt like that?
Another side note: If you're thinking 'yeah yeah flaunt' let me just say that i'm not ok *dreamy smile, so sweeeet* i'm really not

He brought me to this fancy Italian restaurant at Westin Stamford and the moment I sat down I knew it was going to be one expensive meal(the carbonara actually costs a whopping 20 bucks!!!). I've never seen such meticulous waiters. One, while he was refilling my cup, smacked himself on the forehead (mentally of course since his hands were occupied), said 'Sorry m'am I should have started off with good evening first'.

Normally, I would have been angry and guilty that he spent so much unneccessary money on me but aha! he whipped out this black card (not the credit card lar) which entitles us to a 50% discount if he impersonates a certain Mr Joseph Lee (sister's boss, rightful owner of card). Whoo hoo! So I happily ordered this.

It's squid ink, not fungus. I ordered it because it reminded me of the time I got squid's ink squirted up my nose while I was doing a squid dissection in front of a huge audience. Ok I admit, I also wanted to take revenge muahaha. Dunno if it's worth it though since throughout the meal Liang kept teasing me about the aforementioned traumatising incident.

After that I battered my eyelashes and coyly asked Liang if we could 'possibly try the Max Brenner's fondue for dessert?' He relented, not because of my antics but because it's my birthday. MISTAKE! I think it's totally not worth the 20 bucks since I don't think it's nice at all. Liang felt the same way too and hinted that perhaps we could try making our own, so if you see me by the roadside selling fondue please 'shang lian'.

So later in the car he presented me with my birthday present. He had told me beforehand that he made it personally and I had recoiled in horror then (Cue mental picture of him in the frilly home econs apron doing cross stitch) But tada! it turned out to be this.

Isn't it so awfully lame and cute? Guys out there, if you're under the misguided impression that girls like you to do feminine thingies like cross-stitch for them, I strongly recommend this instead (ie, much more manly) in fact i'm selling them at the UNBELIEVABLY CHEAP price of $39.99!!! Buy now!! Limited stocks only!

Kidding. But I'm sure I can persuade Liang to teach you how. At a small fee of course.
