"Qian ni de shou qu gan jue yan huo zui mi ren de ji jieeee-ee"
hmmm somehow the whole time i was at e fireworks festival this song din pop into my head, avid 'fan' of f4 that i am. i put it down to e terribly unromantic atmosphere at the esplanade that nite. let me start my tale of woe frm e beginning.
5.30pm: Arrived at the waterfront of Esplanade. hmmm, why are there so many pple sitting on mats along e river? (din knoe abt e fireworks u see)
5.32pm: Realised it's cos of e fireworks after reading the banner at e carnival
5.33pm: thought to myself tat it's rather funny how pple are already sitting there staring out at sea when the fireworks are obviously starting at 8pm (ie. when it's dark)
6.15pm: spent some time looking at all e stalls. Liang wanted to show off his rifle prowess and win me a humongous soft toy. but i lacked confidence in his skills and was afraid i would end up with a lousy sticker so i dissuaded him under the guise of wanting to save money.
6.25pm: It started drizzling. Saw the shelter packed full of pple. And i really mean no-breathing space-full. Sort of reminds me of the standing on newspaper game we always play in orientation. Pointed my finger at them(discreetly) and said 'haha'
6.40pm: It stopped drizzling. People at shelters ran at top speed like Moses Lim at a buffet table back to chop seats at their desired positions.
6.45pm: We started queuing for Ichiban Japanese restaurant. Barricades were put up all over Esplanade to direct traffic flow. It's like going for NDP sans the free goodie bags. And all for some fireworks that's going to last all of 15min
7.35pm: Finally got led to our table which lo and behold is right next to the window with a fantastic view of the aforementioned kiasu crowd
7.45pm: yummy yummy soft shell crab handroll and baby octapus cum tempura maki
8.10pm: Fireworks!!! Quite nice but i missed e freedom of watching it at home where i can 'WAH' in peace. Supposed to be quite a romantic affair rite fireworks but with all e pple squeezing arnd us it din really occur to me. But he attempted to create some ambience by a sad little shoulder rub cos he was standing being squeezed flat behind me and i was sitting in my chair thus he can't do much also.
8.25pm: The last spark died.
8.25pm and 1 second: People started filing away.
8.26pm: Said to myself how anti-climax it is that you see the crowd dispersing the second the fireworks ended. Shouldn't they at least turn to each other and say 'wow that was worth waiting 3 hrs for'. Felt abit down abt the lack of sentiment surrounding me. I was still bubbling with exhilaration frm the fireworks.
8.40pm: All is not lost. I transferred all my excitement to the $9 momo peach ice-cream that comes highly recommended. It's actually shaped like an apple with the skin being a fine layer of chocolate, the spongy part the peach ice-cream and the core a ferro roche chocolate. It looks so pretty I took a photo of it.
